TorontoBMX projects include operating outdoor and indoor freestyle BMX parks and spearheading the creation of new parks in the Toronto area. The BMX camp has changed many kids’ lives. They interact with other people and at the same time keep active and have fun. It also takes them away from the harsh reality of their neighborhood and peer pressure. The more we engage in good things the less violence we will have. We are helping inner city youth live their dream and experience life at 75 Tandridge BMX summer camp each year for the month of August.

On Saturday, June 22, 2013 – 11am at Walmart- 101 Edgeley Blvd in Vaughan. TorontoBMX will be having a fundraiser to help raise funds to support Tandridge BMX summer camp. When a donation is given, it’s going to support hiring a mentor, ramp maintenance, healthy snacks, BMX bikes, helmets and safety equipment. Most importantly make a positive impact for the future of our youth. I think it’s worth every dollar! In your cooperation lies our strength.

Friday March 1, Saturday March 2 and Sunday March 3, 2013 will mark the 7th year that the Toronto group running the Toronto Jam will have worked tirelessly to create a course that draws over 200 riders from around the world on some cold winter days to showcase their hard work and dedication to the sport. Come and share the exhilaration and energy that drives athletes to practice endless hours to master just one new skill or trick.

From Friday to Sunday, the spectacle will be, well, spectacular. It may appear to be a fairly straight-forward looking collection of ramps, but what will amaze you is what these riders are able to create on such a course. It’s not just being able to ride over a wooden obstacle, but the creativity and imagination that goes into using that obstacle to perform something extraordinary. Not only will they all appreciate your support, but they will hope that your understanding of the complexities that go into mastering the sport of BMX will be reflected in your cheers and applause. Come and share time with our family, a family that encompasses every person in the world who makes the decision to donate a large part of their life to the passion known as BMX.

The companies who provide the prizes for our competition realize how important finding a goal in life is for these young riders. And we appreciate their generosity in being able to honour those who ride above and beyond. This year, 2 athletes will have an opportunity to hone their skills during an all expense paid week of training at Camp Woodward in Pennsylvania. Nike will make sure that every athlete leaves with something unique. Outdoor Gear Canada will be helping to spread the word about proper helmet and head safety. Eastern Bikes, Krusher and Ten Pack Distribution will see to it that many riders will have new parts for their bike. And Acklands-Grainger will be helping some riders with tools so that they will be able to start constructing their own backyard park. Prizes are also coming from Magnolia BMX, McDonald’s Restaurants, Rockstar Energy Drink, Fox, Freegun, RideBMX Magazine, Crime Stoppers (looking after the live weekend Youtube feed of our event using Google Plus Hangouts On Air) and the City of Toronto (whom we thank for looking after storing our ramp course for the year).

This year we are having a raffle to raise funds for injured athlete Brett Banasiewicz. Those who were in attendance last year will no doubt recall what happened at Sunday’s award ceremony. When Brett was given his cheque for his 3rd place finish, he gave back his winnings to us so that we could do more in providing support for the sport in the City of Toronto (the ramps we donate to the City every year have helped to expand BMX facilities at Wallace Emerson, Tandridge, and Regent Park). His generosity is just as big as his creative input to the sport. One week after achieving first place freestyle at Dew Tour Ocean City Maryland, he had an accident that gave him such a serious head injury he was in a coma for 3 days and in rehabilitation facilities for months. Two months after the accident he was finally able to start learning how to walk again. You will be able to see how he is doing 6 months after the accident as he will be on site to assist with the athlete judging on Sunday. Every rider at the competition is unique, in their life, in their thinking, in their approach to training, in their imagination as to what the sport means to them.
